Surroundings
Podere Tufi is situated in the area called Colline Metallifere, or the 'metallic hills'. In times past, various metals were mined here, such as pyrite, copper and silver. The memories are kept alive in the museum of the archaeological mines park of San Silvestro, where there are also guided tours of the old mines.
In the immediate vicinity, near to Populonia on the Gulf of Baratti, there are some Etruscan remains. Places well worth a visit include Suvereto, Massa Marittima, Radicondoli, Belforte, San Galgano, Casole d'Elsa, Colle di Val d'Elsa, Roccatederighi, Punta Ala and Castiglione di Pescaia. If you wander through the old narrow streets, you can imagine yourself in mediaeval times. Take a look inside a church and admire the wealth of the art works. Visit the various museums, where the treasures from the past are sometimes displayed in typically Italian fashion.
Take a leisurely stroll through Gerfalco, as well. And, of course, there are also Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano and Florence. There is something for everyone and actually too much to mention here.
As we said earlier, Podere Tufi is situated in a beautiful nature reserve. It is possible to make a day trip in the area with an experienced guide, who will take you through the hills and point out many interesting features of the countryside.
It's possible to rent horses and quads.
